Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about our services and how we can help.

We serve postpartum mothers in the Houston metropolitan area who are experiencing mental health challenges and have financial barriers to accessing care. Eligibility is based on several factors including residency, financial need, timing (within 12 months postpartum), and willingness to participate in screening and treatment. We work with you individually to determine if our services are a good fit.

No, you don't need a formal diagnosis. If you're struggling with your mental health during or after pregnancy, we encourage you to reach out. We offer free EPDS screening to help assess your needs, and we can connect you with appropriate care whether or not you have a diagnosis. Early intervention makes a difference.

We primarily serve mothers who face financial barriers to mental health care. While we don't have a strict income cutoff, we assess financial need as part of our intake process. If cost is preventing you from getting help, please reach out—we'll work with you to find a solution, whether through our financial assistance program or by connecting you with other resources.

We provide comprehensive maternal mental health support including:

  • Free EPDS (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale) screening
  • Financial assistance for 3-6 therapy sessions with licensed providers
  • Referrals to mental health professionals specializing in perinatal care
  • Home cleaning services for postpartum mothers (when available)
  • Care package delivery with essential items and wellness resources
  • Care coordination and follow-up support
  • Connection to additional community resources
  • Crisis intervention and emergency resource referrals

When funding is available, we typically provide financial assistance for 3-6 therapy sessions with a licensed mental health provider. The exact number depends on your individual needs and our current funding capacity. Our goal is to help you get started on your healing journey and connect you with longer-term resources if needed.

We don't provide direct therapy services. Instead, we connect you with licensed therapists and mental health professionals in the community who specialize in perinatal mental health. We cover the cost of sessions (when funding is available), coordinate referrals, and follow up to ensure you're getting the care you need.

We strive to respond to all inquiries within 24-48 business hours. After your initial contact, we'll schedule an intake assessment within one week. Once approved, we work quickly to connect you with a provider, typically within 2-3 weeks depending on therapist availability. If you're in crisis, we provide immediate referrals to emergency resources.

Yes! We recognize that a clean, safe home environment supports both maternal mental health and newborn wellness. When funding and volunteer capacity allow, we provide professional home cleaning services for enrolled clients. This might include:

  • Deep cleaning of living spaces, kitchen, and bathrooms
  • Laundry assistance and organization
  • Sanitization of high-touch surfaces and baby areas
  • Safe, non-toxic cleaning products appropriate for families with newborns

This service reflects our holistic approach—connecting environmental wellness with maternal mental health. Availability varies based on funding and volunteer resources.

Our care packages are thoughtfully curated to support both physical and mental wellness for new mothers. Contents may include:

  • Self-care items (skincare, aromatherapy, comfort products)
  • Mental health resources and educational materials
  • Healthy snacks and nourishing foods
  • Baby care essentials (when needed)
  • Journal for reflection and gratitude practice
  • Community resource guides and hotline information
  • Personalized encouragement notes from our team

Care packages are delivered at no cost to enrolled clients and may be provided at intake, during your care journey, or as follow-up support. Contents vary based on individual needs and donation availability.

Not necessarily! While mental health experience is valuable, we have many volunteer roles that don't require it. We provide training for all volunteers on topics including confidentiality, trauma-informed care, and recognizing crisis situations. What matters most is your compassion, reliability, and commitment to our mission.

Absolutely. We take confidentiality very seriously. All client information is protected under HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and our strict privacy policies. We only share information with your explicit written consent, except in rare situations where we're legally required to ensure safety (such as imminent risk of harm). Review our full Privacy Policy for details.

Wings of Care is an initiative of Eagle-X Impact Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We're funded through individual donations, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, and fundraising events. 100% of donations directly support our programs to provide mental health services to mothers in need. If you'd like to support our work, visit our Get Involved page.

Wings of Care uniquely bridges two essential aspects of family wellness: maternal mental health and environmental stewardship. We recognize that clean, safe environments contribute to the health of both mothers and babies. Beyond just connecting mothers with therapy, we provide holistic support, financial assistance to remove cost barriers, personalized care coordination, and education about creating healthy home environments. Our approach is trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and centered on empathy, support, and grace.
