When to Call for Help

🚨 Call 911 or go to the Emergency Room immediately if you:

  • Have thoughts of harming yourself or your baby
  • Have a plan to hurt yourself or your baby
  • Are hearing voices or seeing things that aren't there
  • Feel disconnected from reality
  • Cannot care for yourself or your baby
  • Are experiencing a mental health emergency

📞 Call a crisis hotline (988, 1-833-TLC-MAMA, PSI) if you:

  • Feel overwhelmed, hopeless, or unable to cope
  • Are having scary or intrusive thoughts (even if you wouldn't act on them)
  • Feel extreme anxiety, panic, or constant worry
  • Think you might have postpartum depression or anxiety
  • Need someone to talk to who understands
  • Want resources for finding local support or treatment

  • ✅ Ask questions to understand your situation
  • ✅ Help you create a safety plan if needed
  • ✅ Provide resources and referrals
  • ✅ Stay on the line as long as you need
  • ✅ Keep your conversation confidential (unless you're in immediate danger)

They will NOT:

  • ❌ Judge you or make you feel worse
  • ❌ Take your baby away (unless you're in immediate danger)
  • ❌ Tell you to "just get over it"
  • ❌ Rush you off the phone
